BERLIN GOGOS - Dance as Work

Dance as art, as individual, artistic expression usually takes place in a theater environment. The entire creative process culminates in a single stage production. Any further form of exploitation depends on the successful sale of this event and takes place within a system of producers, festival agents and managers, all (net)working within an economic field that, of course also dominates art like any other area of public life. In contrast with the visual arts, a dance event however can never be marketed as an object which after the completion of the artistic process is completely subject to the processes of supply and demand, i.e. value appreciation. The subject centered matrix that leads to a production never renounces itself. Establishment within said economic field is therefore very difficult and in dance we are still completely dependant on the acquisition of distinction versus other artist and/or the affiliation with aesthetic groups as a statement of artistic quality. Buying early and then waiting is sadly not an option. The difference between events such as the Art Basel Miami and a dance platform are precisely not just differences in size or in social relevance.

BERLIN GOGO therefore takes the next step towards an economy of dance. We no longer offer dance as art but sell dance in its most simple and purest form, dance as animation, better known as GoGo Dancing. From now on all styles, characters, faces and bodies are on offer: dance itself. All those interested can choose according to their likings and personal criteria, free from artistic contexts. Dance is thereby freed from artistic practice. Anyone can choose freely whatever their taste in dance, be it Hip Hop, Release, New Style, Contact, Experimental or Improvisation. The range is as diverse as there are combinations. Dance as work, dance commodified through work.
